Talented Akito’s Ultimate Goals

Hills Road alumnus Akito Oyama 18, is an exceptionally talented young man. He is representing Great Britain and England in two separate sports!

Akito has been selected to play in the GB Ultimate Frisbee team as well as representing England at Chess.

When Akito joined Hills Road as a student in 2015 he became a member of the Hills Road Ultimate Frisbee team and along with his fellow team player, Seamus Turvill, has been selected to play for the GB Ultimate Frisbee team. They will be travelling with the other members of the GB team to Canada in the summer to compete in the World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC).

Akito started playing chess when he was 8 years old. He started playing for England when he was 11 years old and has just returned from competing in the London Chess Classic Open competition where he came 45th= out of 289 competitors.

Akito said “This year’s competition was tough with people competing from almost 50 countries. I started off slow, but finished with two solid wins which boosted my final ranking.”

Akito studied A level Computer Science, Maths and Physics at Hills Road and is on a Gap year before going to university to study Computer Science in 2018. He is currently working in the Study Skills department at Hills Road supporting students with learning needs.

Akito said “I enjoy working with students, helping them to have equal opportunities to make the most of their time at Hills Road.” “After my degree, I’d like to work in the field of artificial intelligence, and participate in the Olympics for Ultimate Frisbee!”
